Much of the 21st birthday revolves around the cliché of finally being able to legally drink. Unfortunately, most give in, go out, and getting trashed. That is so old, not to mention dangerous, unhealthy, and just plain silly. Buck the crowd and opt instead for a California wine tasting tour. Think of the oodles of fun you’ll have touring Napa, or Sonoma’s wine country. With good friends at hand and awe-inspiring scenery all around, how can you not have a great time?
Good Food
Compliment all that excellent wine by eating dinner at a top-notch restaurant. If you decide to try the wine tasting idea, then why not stop at the Culinary Institute of America’s restaurants? There you can dine on fine cuisine prepared by “…the world’s next culinary stars”.
If this particular restaurant is out of geographic reach, then try another four-star restaurant in your hometown. Nothing feels better than celebrating your big day with family and friends, while sampling the finest cuisine the world has to offer.
Party Down
If, however, partying is more your speed, then try this. Rent a limo, or get one of your friends to do it for you, and club-hop all night long. Dressed in your finest, invite some of your closest friends to join you for a night on the town of pure fun and dancing. It will feel terrific to celebrate your 21st birthday in style with those you love.

Why not choose to spend your birthday with the people who make you feel fantastic? If you have guilt over not spending time with certain people, then look at it this way. You are now officially an adult, and knowing how, and with whom to spend time with, is a very adult like quality. Think of it as one your very first “adult” decisions.
- What will you wear? Don’t laugh; it’s not as frivolous a question as you think. The clothes we wear signal a lot about us, and if you feel it’s time for a change in your life, this is actually one of the simplest things you can do to signal that change. For example, if you know there’s no way you can get out of spending the day with someone, and the previous suggestion of drawing a line in the sand is too much at this point, then let your clothes speak for you. If you always wear jeans, try a fitted suit. Do you live in sundresses? Then try a flirty cocktail dress. The point is, when you look good, you feel good, and everyone wants to feel, and look their best on their 21st birthday.

The bottom line is that this is your day to celebrate. No matter what way you choose to do so, try to put your own individual stamp on your birthday. After all, out of all the days in the year, this one is just for the lovable, unique you.
