Everybody has a birthday, and celebrating it each year with a fantastic party is a great way to say "Hey, nice job being alive!". People in countries around the world celebrate birthdays in different ways. In Italy the adults pull on a child's ear once for each year of age. In Australia children eat Fairy Bread topped with butter and sprinkles called "hundreds and thousands". And in Hungary the birthday boy or girl is showered with greetings of "boldog szuletesnapot" (happy birthday)!
You can celebrate a momentous birthday (such as turning 16, 21 or 50) with a huge gathering of friends and family or as a more intimate affair. Many parties, especially for young children, have a theme such as underwater, dinosaurs or a cartoon character. And surprise parties are always a blast for everyone involved!
