Children’s Party Ideas

Well planned children’s party ideas make things run smoothly and will result in a fun celebration for everyone attending.

Pick a Theme

If you are looking for a good source of children’s party ideas, start with a theme for your party. Once you have a theme established, base all the party activities and games on that idea. For instance a Harry Potter themed party can then lead to its decorations, music and even the party games. A few fake webs around in the corners of the house with some very large plastic spiders would be a start. Plastic frogs and a few rubber rats can move the atmosphere right along. If you could arrange a large cauldron, plastic would work, with some dry ice in it. Luckily most costume supply stores will have a selection of magic wands available so all you have to do is ask your guests to dress the part and you can supply the wands and magic. Any games you decide on can be team games and a bit of old burlap (or a properly shaped brown paper bag) can be your sorting hat. A game of hot and cold to find a sorcerers stone would be a fun Harry Potter game.

Looking for more children’s party ideas? Yo ho ho!! A pirate theme is another fun way to go. Any good novelty shop should be able to supply you with a selection of temporary tattoos. A Pirates Booty bag with an eye patch, bandana and some Chocolate “Gold coins” will get the party looking right. The cake for this party theme would be a Jolly Rodger. A large plastic skeleton hanging by its neck and wearing pirate gear would be a great mood setter as well.

Cupcakes Rule

Cupcakes are very popular with the children’s party set and for good reason they are fun and tasty. Cupcakes can be decorated to complement the theme of you party. For example, to complete your Harry Potter theme you can make small wizards hats out of black construction paper and top each cupcake with a hat. To follow the pirate theme, a nice little scull and cross bones on each cake would be a good idea.

Cookies are Cool Too

For party activities that all the kids can enjoy you could start with some plain sugar cookies. Then a quick stop at the local crafts store to pick up some pre-made icings. Let the kids decorate their own cookies and perhaps have prizes for the cookies that have been decorated the most creatively.

More Children’s Party Ideas

There are many other themes you can use to help you think up your children’s party ideas. These are just two of the most popular right now. With the imminent release of the next Potter movie and book this is a good place to start. Just about any other theme would work as well from a Bratz party to a NASCAR party. For girls other ideas would be Lizzie McGuire, Hello Kitty, Disney Princess or even the Powerpuff girls. Other sources for party themes can be found in the recent animated feature movies: Madagascar, Ratatouille, or Cars. Ratatouille is a great idea because it has several elements that kids get excited about; cooking, chefs and rats. This is a great children’s party idea that will give them a chance to dress up as little chefs. They can also have fun decorating cupcakes and playing chef games like using a small frying pan to run a relay passing a “Fried Egg” (a bean bag) from pan to pan. To tie up your Ratatouille theme together, send each chef home with a new whisk and a rubber rat.
