Girl Teen Party Ideas
From LoveToKnow Party
Dreaming up girl teen party ideas is easy if you keep in mind the age, interests, and friend network.
Why Age is Important
The term “teenager” is so broad. A young person’s mind is constantly growing in this stage of life, and that affects everything from mood and sleep habits to tastes in music, food, and recreational activities.
As you think of various girl teen party ideas, consider what she talks of right now, not a few months ago. One prime example is trick-or-treating at Halloween. Make no mistake: most teenagers still want the candy, but after about age 13, they wouldn’t be caught dead dressing up and going door to door.
Try hosting a Halloween costume party instead. Many different ages of teens will still think it’s fun to create a getup, and add to the event with games, a bonfire, and spooky treats.
Follow Their Interests
The quicksilver attention span of most teens references their constant search for identity. This is why you’ll see your daughter in a t-shirt, jeans and pony tail one day, and an orange Mohawk, black fingernails, and a leather jacket the next.
Sit down and ask her about the art she’s interested in: her favorite sites online, TV shows, movies, and the like. This will make it easy to plan a teen party.
A popular idea is based on the TV show “American Idol.” Have the teens dress up and put their voices to the test with the American Idol All-Star Challenge DVD Game. Or, see the beginnings of the hottest new girl group with the Karoke Revolution American Idol Bundle, which allows up to eight players and special duet competitions.
Ask Their Friends for Help
The intricate nature of the teenage girl friend network is sometimes hard to navigate. You may have thought your daughter was BFF with one girl just last month, only to find out yesterday they haven’t spoke to one another in three weeks. This is what makes planning a surprise party so difficult during a young woman’s teenage years. So, it's best to let your teen handle the invitations.
However, if your teen has one special friend, and you do want to put on a surprise party, ask that pal for help. She’ll be able to zero on who will be the best party guests, the hip new songs, snacks to serve, what is popular, and what’s “so over.” She’ll also feel proud that you asked her opinion and placed confidence in her to keep the affair a secret.
Other Girl Teen Party Ideas
- A day at the pool/lake. A chance to swim and sunbathe all day is a perennial favorite girl teen party idea. Treat your teen to a snazzy new swimsuit, pack a cooler with snacks and drinks, pay for admission, have a lesson about safety, and arrange to pick everyone up later. Your teen will appreciate the freedom.
- An afternoon at a theme park. Let your teenager and her friends scream their lungs out at a local theme park. Many parks offer group discounts, or you can purchase reduced tickets through promotional deals. Depending on the age of the teen, it might be best to accompany the party to the park, and have the girls check in at pre-arranged times.
- Paint your own pottery. Many communities have pottery shops featuring a variety of pieces that are fun to paint. Most locations have a discounted rate for groups. This and other types of craft parties such as jewelry making and creating watercolor cards help girls expand their creative abilities and express their individuality.
- Retro party. Thrift shops are a great source of fun for a girl teen party. Even if the girls don’t buy anything, trying on clothes and snapping pictures to later post on MySpace or share through e-mail will pitch everyone into fits of giggles. Bring the party home with music from the decade and a DVD of a popular TV show or teen movie from the same decade. If you're brave enough, share a few of your teen pictures.
- Scrapbooking party. If your teen will graduate soon, or is in the band, on the soccer team, or in any other activity, invite some of her friends to start a scrapbook that will chronicle this time in their lives. Help them design a scrapbook cover, and they can add pages throughout the year. This is a great theme that can bring the girls together once a month or so, adding and sharing new pictures and memorabilia.
- Stage a play or poetry reading. This girl teen party idea is perfect for those in drama club or who love to write. Girls often feel more secure performing for each other than in front of the whole class.
- Salon night. For girls young and old, this idea never goes out of style. Facials, mani/pedis, playing with new hairstyles, even experimenting with washable color highlights, make for a glamorous bash.
