Luau Party Decoration
From LoveToKnow Party
A good luau will have as many bright and colorful luau party decorations as possible.
Get some Light on the Party
If your party is outside you are going to want to get some Tiki torches. For indoor parties you will probably want some Themed lights. Along with the music the lighting will help set the mood. Your local party supply store should have a selection of party lights for you but if not there are plenty of resources online where you can get some luau party decorations.
Flowers make the Party
Centerpieces and table decorations of Orchids and Hibiscus are a fragrant and eye-catching way to set the visual tone of the party. You can arrange the flowers with Ti leaves and a Bird of Paradise or two would to set the theme of your party. Other ideas for luau party decorations would be to use wooden bowls and float some orchids and candles in them. Surround the bowls with the Ti leaves and more flowers and you are headed in the right direction. Since you are trying to set the mood for a tropical paradise party you cannot have too many flowers. When in doubt hang a Lei over something to keep the theme going.
Give everything the Tropical Touch
Tropical print tablecloths and matching napkins with Tiki style carvings on them are an attractive way to set the table for your luau party. Other luau party decorations can include a bamboo Tiki hut sign over on the front door or over the bar. You can also decorate anything in a coconut shell from drinks to appetizers and add any Tiki style lamp or wall mask. The more primitive the look the more authentic your luau party will look. If you want to go with a more kitsch look you may want to look for inflatable Tiki poles or inflatable palm trees. For a fun addition to your party see if you can track down a tropical photo cut out. Some disposable cameras added to the mix and your guests can take their own pictures or if you have a digital camera and a printer, you can send your guests home with their tropical fantasy pictures.
Get the Food into the Act
While coconut shells can be used to serve drinks or soups you can also look for carved wooden plates with a tropical look and feel to them. A quick workaround for that could be to cover some paper plates with banana leaves. If coconut shells are not available look for Tropical themed glasses and mugs. Anything with a palm tree or a beach scene should fit right in.
Don’t forget the Bar
Wrapping bamboo curtains around the bar is a start. If you cannot find a bamboo wrap try your local art supply store or hobby shop and ask them if they have any raffia. Raffia is a palm frond looking string that usually comes in a light brown and can pass for palm fronds. Hanging the raffia around as a table or bar skirting will give your luau party decorations an authentic look. With some palm fronds and more Tiki masks set up around the bar you have your luau party decorations going. Be sure to serve your Mai Tais in a Tiki mug. Some little plastic palm trees to hang off the side of the drinks would be a fun idea also.
Luau Party Decorations
If you want to be sure your guests fit in with your party be sure to have lots of shirts and skirts available for them to change into. Hawaiian print sarongs are a cool and pretty way for your women guests to get into the Luau party mood. A few grass skirts should be on hand for anyone who wants to hula dance. With some flower leis and some hibiscus for behind the ear your guests will match your decorations.
