Hula Dancing

The Hula is the traditional dance of Hawaii. It was originally used to tell stories of events that have occurred through motions. Today, modern Hula can be a fun luau party game that everyone can participate in. Buy or rent some grass skirts and have everyone come to the party in a brightly colored shirt. To prepare, rent a hula dancing DVD or videotape to learn a couple of moves. When the dancing starts, have participants mimic your moves while the music plays. Or set up your TV outside and play the instructional hula dancing DVD for everyone to try out.

A couple of places you can find hula dancing DVDs and videos are:

The Limbo

How low can you go? Limbo is a fun luau party game that requires a bit of flexibility. While dancing to Caribbean or Hawaiian style music, participants try to dance under a horizontal pole without touching it or falling to the floor. As the game progresses, the pole is lowered and the last dancer left is the winner.

You can purchase a limbo stick at the following websites:

Hot Coconut

Hot coconut is a luau party game that is easy to play. All is needed is a coconut, some Hawaiian or other kind of tropical music, and a small group of people. To begin, have all participants sit in a circle. When you start the music, have everyone pass the coconut around the circle. Then, when you decide to stop the music, whoever is caught with the coconut has to leave the circle. Continue the game until the last player is left. Award the winner with a small prize.

Hula Hoop Contest

Hula hoops can be a lot of fun. Shop for hula hoops at toy or novelty stores. Now let the contest begin! Turn up the music and have your guests try and see who can hula hoop the longest. You can also use the hoops for a relay race or ring toss type of activity.

Pineapple Bowling

Bowling with for pineapples is a silly twist to one of America’s fun pastimes. All you need are several pineapples for pins and coconuts for the “bowling ball”. Be prepared for fits of laughter as everyone tries to knock the pineapples down. After all the fun is over (and if the fruit is not torn to bits), cut up leftovers for a delicious treat.

Luau Party Games

What’s a party without games? Your tropical themed paradise event is perfect for active outdoor activities. With a little creativity and a few supplies, your guests will be entertained and have a lot of fun.
