Quinceanera Dinner Plates
From LoveToKnow Party
Because most Quinceanera’s are formal events, Quinceanera dinner plates should reflect the magnitude of the affair. A Quinces, as it’s fondly called, is a party in celebration of a young Hispanic lady’s fifteenth birthday, when she becomes a woman. If you’ll be hosting a Quinceanera at your home, you’ll need to pick our your own plates, otherwise the catering hall will have several choices that should do just fine.

Formal Place Settings
If you’re hosting a formal event, you’ll want to use formal china. Plain white china adds a classy touch or you can choose a pattern or color matching the Quinces Court’s gowns. There aren’t any traditional Quinceanera rules regarding dinner plates, but a formal party requires formal place settings and etiquette.
If you’ll be using colored linens, you’ll want plain white china dinner plates. For white linens, use either white Quinceanera dinner plates, or patterned plates in contrast. With the exception of white plates and linens, it’s not considered a proper formal table setting to have dishes and linens the same color.
A formal dinner table is set as follows:
- Charger – A charger is an optional place setting. It’s a very large dinner plate to be placed in the center of an individual dining area.
- Quinceanera dinner plate – Place the dinner plate on top of the charger. If no charger is used, the dinner plate will be at the bottom center of the place setting.
- Soup bowl – To be placed on top of the dinner plate.
- Forks – To the left of the dinner plate, forks are placed in order of use. The dessert fork is closest to the plate, with the dinner fork in the center and the salad fork first.
- Napkin – A cloth napkin appears to the left under the forks
- Knife and spoons – To the right of the dinner plate, placed directly on the tablecloth is the dinner knife and spoons. The knife appears closest to the plate followed by the teaspoon and dinner spoon.
- Bread and butter plate – The bread plate and butter knife are placed to the left above the silverware.
- Glasses – Glasses are placed to the right above the silverware in the following order: water glass, red wine glass, white wine glass. Champagne glasses can be placed here as well.
A More Relaxed Setting
Since a Quinces is a fifteenth birthday party, it’s acceptable to use paper party ware for parties in a more relaxed setting. There are plenty of styles and designs to choose from and party stores boast quite a selection. Even if you’re hosting a budget affair, choose from one of many elegant styles to reflect the magnitude of the event.
Celebrate the Event
There are no hard and fast rules regarding Quinceanera dinner plates. When in doubt, follow the rules of formal dinner party etiquette and your party is sure to be a success!
