Wild College Parties

From LoveToKnow Party

Wild college parties are a big part of the college experience for a lot of people. Fraternities, sororities and other groups on campus regularly throw wild college parties that usually include a lot of drinking, dancing and debauchery.

Wild College Parties

Planning Wild College Parties

There really isn't a lot of planning that needs to go into a wild college party. You just need a venue, a few supplies and a way to get the word out that you're having a bash.

The Venue

The best place for a wild college party is a relatively open space without a lot of furniture that will need to be moved out of the way. Frat houses are probably the most common location for such parties, but it may also be possible to rent a banquet hall for your event.

If you're planning to rent a room for your event, make sure that it's clear to the venue's owners that there will be drinking going on. Some venues require insurance or extra security when alcohol is involved, and they will most certainly require you to promise not to serve alcohol to minors.

Other possible options for your party are boats and limousine buses, which add a little bit of glamour to a wild night.

The Supplies

Wild college parties are often not very elaborate when it comes to décor, but they can have themes and decorations just like any other party. It is quite popular for fraternities and sororities to have themed parties for events like rush week, homecoming, other big sporting events, graduation and special nights through the year.

These parties often come complete with themed T-shirts as party favors and the frat house dressed up like a Hawaiian island, Paris, or a backyard barbecue.

If you don’t want to throw a party that is that fancy, you can stick with the bare bones rooms and outdoor areas you have, perhaps adding little festive touches like tiki torches.

The main supplies you need for a wild college party are food and drinks. Food isn't always required but it's a nice touch to at least have some chips and dip, cheese and crackers, chicken wings or other basic foods, especially if your party is planned to start in the afternoon and go through the night.

Beer is the most common drink at wild college parties, which is usually why they end up wild in the first place. Kegs are the most economical way to purchase large quantities of beer, but remember you'll also need cups for people to drink from. You can never have too many cups, so buy way more than you think you'll need.

The same is true of plates, napkins and plastic cutlery if you need it. Remember to offer some non-alcohol drinks, especially water, for those who don't want to drink or who need a break from alcohol.

Getting the Word Out

Dance party

Wild college parties don't usually have invitations, but you could send an Evite to anyone you want to make sure knows about your party. Those people can help spread the word to others and before long you'll have a ton of guests.

Another popular way to "advertise" frat parties is by writing information on the sidewalks around campus (if that is allowed at your school). People will see the information as they walk to class and share it with their friends.

Of course this kind of open invitation might get you more people or different people than you really want at your party, so if you want to be more selective, tell your friends to tell their friends but don't give the invitation to the whole campus.

Surviving Wild College Parties

As mentioned earlier, the main activity at many wild college parties is drinking. That doesn't have to be a bad thing as long as people are safe about it. As host of a party where you expect a lot of drinking to be happening, you should be prepared with the numbers of taxi services or to allow people to spend the night if your party is at a fraternity or sorority house. The last thing you want is someone from your party causing an accident.

As mentioned earlier, always have water and other non-alcoholic drinks available for designated drivers and to help drinkers pace themselves. It's always a good idea to alternate between beer and water or another non-alcoholic beverage.

And if you find you haven't made it through the party without a severe hangover the next day, spend as much time as you can in bed, drink lots of water or Gatorade, take aspirin and silently reward yourself for throwing a wild party.
