Wording for Theme Parties Invitations
From LoveToKnow Party
Coming up with the right wording for theme party invitations is vital to throwing a successful party. The wording will give insight into the party's formality and give the guests additional information beyond the typical "who, what, when and where" of most invites.
Coordinate Theme Wording and Graphics
One thing to keep in mind when creating party invitations is that your wording and your graphics should be coordinated. Using traditional, formal wording like "You are cordially invited to an evening of dancing and drinks" and invitation paper with a country motif would be odd for a barnyard dance themed invitation. Likewise, you wouldn't want to invite everyone to a "frolickin' time at the ol' farm" on elegant ivory paper with gold embossed calligraphy fonts.
Paying attention to how both the wording and graphics play off each other is also important. You do not want to confuse guests by giving them conflicting messages in the invitation. Both the wording and images need to convey the party theme, formality and information clearly.
Sample Wording for Theme Party Invitations
Theme party invitations require their own unique wording. While many parties are thrown for particular occasions, such as retirement, anniversaries or birthdays, others are thrown just "because." Also, those special occasion parties often have their own sub-theme, like a gymnastics birthday party.
Write Your Own Wording
Write your own invitation wording for your next theme party. You can do this in a number of ways. A short verse or rhyming poem is a popular way to express the party theme and information. Get inspired by these party themes and their respective wording:
- Back to the Fifties Party: Let's twist again! Grab your best guy or gal and jive on out to the dance floor on Saturday, August 15!
- Circus Theme Party: Get your popcorn, get your peanuts. . . Come one, come all, to the greatest show under the big top!
- Kentucky Derby Party: And they're off. . . it's Jane Smith in the lead with her mojito held high, as Robby Smith gains on her while firing up the grill on this fantastic Sunday afternoon at the honorary Churchill Downs at 1234 HighSmile Street.
- Pirate Theme Party: ARG! Shiver me timbers, the Smiths are walking the plank for treason on the high seas in honor of Capt'n Mark Smith's 5th birthday.
- Winter Wonderland Theme Party: Snowflakes glisten, all shiny and new; though the air is cold, we are warmed by the thought of you. Please come to our Winter Wonderland party.
Remember to add pertinent information, such as date, time, place and RSVP info, at the bottom of each saying if it is not all contained in the verse. If a costume is expected or kids need to bring a swimsuit, remember to put a line at the bottom of the invite regarding that information, too.
