What are a few quick but fun outdoor games you can play in the winter? We all ready had our first snowfall 3-4 weeks ago (luckily, it melted the same day!), so winter has been on my mind lately. I was thinking a timed snowman building contest would be fun. Fifteen to twenty minutes for a contest would be perfect. Hand out food coloring to dye the snow for an added bonus. A snow-castle contest could be fun, too. What are your ideas? |

Tug of war could be fun with some snow on the ground. Another idea is to see who can build the largest snowball. This might not be as quick as you were thinking of, but I wonder if you could have fun playing regular games, like football or baseball, in the snow. The potential for slipping and sliding would just add a new element to the game. Don’t forget to have some warm drinks and food ready for your guests when they come inside after their fun in the snow. |

Lorie, I like your idea for a tug-of-war! That would be a lot of fun and could get over in a fairly short amount of time. I was thinking of quick games because most people are okay outside for 15-20 minutes before they start to really get cold. Warm cocoa, hot apple cider and plenty of comfort foods will be steaming and ready when everyone comes in! Thanks for the idea! |
