Does anyone have any new ideas that could be served in addition to, or even replace, traditional pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving parties? I’ve been thinking about making either a pumpkin cake roll or a pumpkin cheesecake. I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas. We usually have pecan pie, too, and I know many people favor apple pies during the holidays as well. Thanks! |

In my family, it was always a tradition to serve a butterscotch pie. My mom would use the pie instructions on the boxes of butterscotch pudding and include some crushed up pecans in the mix and a few whole pecans on top of the pie as it set for decorations. I know some people are really attached to the idea of pumpkin pie, though. I found a recipe for pumpkin mousse that looks like an interesting alternative. You get the pumpkin flavor along with a unique way of serving it. |

My family won’t give up the custardy aspect of the pumpkin pie. So, for a little variety, I make mini tartlets by pouring the pumpkin pie mix into prebaked little squares of puff pastry which I have squished into mini muffin tins. They look very fancy, but they are really easy. And, kids love ‘em. |
