Co-ed Teen Party Tips

What are some tips for throwing a successful co-ed teen party? I remember being awkward when I was in high school and attempted to throw a boy-girl party for the first time. It totally flopped, because I didn’t have any activities planned, and all the guys left who didn’t have girlfriends attending, too. So, share your tips for planning a successful teen party for both boys and girls! Thanks!

For me, I had a good time at coed parties in high school because my group of friends was coed, and so someone was just inviting all of his or her friends over for a birthday party, for instance, regardless of whether they were guys or girls.  I think it’s much better to approach a coed gathering from this perspective than to plan a party just to spend more time with random members of the opposite sex.  I recommend having a lot of casual activities available, like board games, video games, and movies rather than relying on people wanting to dance or otherwise pair up in couples.  A good selection of snacks and beverages doesn’t hurt, either.

Sometimes the indoor and evening aspects of a coed teen party can work against any goals you might have of a non-couple party. Consider having the party outside during the day, like in a park. The wide open spaces can be a real boost to a coed party.  Guests are less likely to pair up and more likely to get up and participate in group/team activities and games like touch football, volleyball and softball. And, I agree with Lorie - a great food and drink selection is a must for a successful teen party.
