Does anyone have unusual summer (or anytime, really) party themes? I’m thinking I want to go beyond the typical Hawaiian, tropical, pool-party themes. Something that most people would think “wow, that’s unexpected but awesome” when they hear it. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks! |

In the early 80s, I think I went to a very imaginative summer party idea, based The punch was a purple cool-aid with I guess ever-clear. |

Wow Diane, what a crazy party theme! I’ve never heard of it! I do think people will have to be careful who they invite—not everyone will be a fan of “darker” humor. But for the right crowd, it could really go over well. Thanks for sharing! [ Edited: 23 May 2009 10:43 AM by Amy Hoover]

I attended a party for a friend who was a big lover of “Peanuts”, the comic strip that starred Charlie Brown. He was moving out of state and we were all asked to bring gag gifts around the Peanuts theme. He received a piece of Linus’ blanket, a dog bone from Snoopy, some sheet music from Schroeder. And, of course, he went home with more bags and cans of peanuts than any household should ever have in their cabinets. Giant blowups of the comic strip and characters were used as decorations. The plates and cups depicted Charlie Brown and his gang. The table had a giant Snoopy dog in the center and was littered with peanuts in their shells. The cake was decorated with a Peanuts comic strip. The hostess was dressed like Lucy and she was serving lemonade from behind a cardboard lemonade stand - some was spiked with a little vodka! It was great fun and the photos from the party were a hoot! I’m sure it was a great going away memory for the honoree. |

Hi brookdavis, I think you could find a poker table top at a party supply store, either online or at a brick-and-mortar store. Another idea, if you have the available funds, is to rent a table from a supply store. Remember to check out the gambling laws in your area regarding a party such as this. You may be able to play with tokens or trinkets, but not with actual cash. It’s worth investigating before the party so you don’t get into trouble. Have a great time, and let us know how the party goes! |
