Thanks for the suggestions, Kerri. I like the idea of asking guests to caption old photos - it sounds like that could be a lot of fun.

A Golden Days theme would work great with photos from the good-old-days. Check out the photo centerpieces at naptimecards.com. Their centerpiece kits are cute and inexpensive. You could assemble something similar with a little creativity. Also consider old photos scattered on the table with empty caption bubbles on them.

I think that the biggest way you can incorporate a shopping theme, Lynn, is in the decorations. Think shoes, purses, gift bags, and so on for centerpieces and other decorative touches. I found an interesting blog post from a party planner who coordinated a shopping theme bridal shower. If you follow the link, you'll see that this is very high-end, but I thought some of the details were great, such as decorating with vintage clothing ads (which you could probably find online or at a used bookstore) and using dress-shaped placecard holders.

I am planning a 50th birthday party for my sister. She loves, loves, loves, to shop. Any ideas on what I could do for a theme for a shopaholic?

I'm actually having trouble finding golden decor especially for 50th birthdays. I did find one online retailer with some fun gold-toned party favors and accessories - partysupplieshut.makesparties.com/Catalog.aspx?intDisplayableCategoryID=2577&intDisplayableProductID=60669. I think your best bet will be to look for gold accents in generic party supplies like tablecloths and balloons, rather than in pieces made specifically for a 50th birthday. You may also find some ideas in 50th anniversary decorations, like this confetti that's made of gold 50s - www.centurynovelty.com/detail_35_070-033.html.

I think as long as your tableware fits the casual attitude of a barbecue, then it would be a fine food choice for a "Golden Days" theme. If you're using fine china, linen napkins, and crystal stemware to complement the theme, then barbecue ribs wouldn't really fit the atmosphere. Here's just one example of some casual gold party products - partysuppliesworld.com/pages/frames/anniversary.html. Gold-colored paper plates, napkins, and plastic cutlery should be easy to find at most party stores, although they might be stocked with the anniversary-themed products.

Hope these ideas have helped, Latonya!
