That sounds like a great idea for a winter birthday, Dylan. Just make sure there's lots of adult supervision for the hotel rooms. There's a discussion in the Party forums about Sweet Sixteen party suggestions. You may be able to find some more ideas there, or you can add your own.
-- Contributed by: Lorie WitkopMy birthday is during the winter and i thought about havign a snowboarding party. where we can stay in a hotel, me and my friends, and go snowboarding during the day i think thats a good idea to do. any one think thats good and anyone have other ideas?
-- Contributed by: dylanYou say outdoors isn't an option, but what about winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, or sledding? Community parks might offer some cheaper options, or you could provide food and guests could pay for their own activities. If you're really not into outdoor activities, a seasonal theme could be a fun idea, such as a winter wonderland theme party or something that works with the idea that your birthday is close to Valentine's Day. Hope these ideas help get you started and that you have a great birthday!
-- Contributed by: Lorie Witkopok so mine and my twin sisters 16th birthday is in about a month. its january and will be february and we have no idea what we are going to do. i love the outdoors but thats not an option bec. of the time of year. we want to have a coed party of about 40 people. ahhhhh! anyone got some ideas of what we could do? and we cant spend hardly any money.
-- Contributed by: sky arionIs there a good haunted house, hayride, or corn maze in your area? A group outing could be a lot of fun. You could also have fun turning your own house, garage or barn into a haunted house for your friends to go through. Otherwise, I think the decorations will go a long way in setting the right atmosphere. Check out our article on Halloween Party Ideas for Teenagers for more spooky ideas.
-- Contributed by: Lorie WitkopHey,I am turning a6 on October 31,yes,I know its on Halloween:DWell,I can't really think of an idea.I guess I want something cool but spooky.Any interesting ideas?
-- Contributed by: AquaPink can be a good starting point for your party planning, Stacy. There was a movie in the 1980s called Pretty in Pink and you could use that as inspiration for a fun retro theme. Although My Super Sweet 16 can be a bit excessive, one of the girls featured in season 3 chose the theme of Pink Fantasy, and you can get ideas from the show's photo slideshow. Hopefully, this can give you a start on your party planning.
-- Contributed by: Lorie WitkopThat sounds like a fun idea, Adriene. Could you tell us more about the details of your theme?

Planning your party around an activity can be fun and unique. I don't know what's popular in Bulgaria, Vicky, but whether you go to a movie, an all-ages dance club, or an arcade, spending an afternoon or evening with friends can be a great way to celebrate your birthday.
For one final idea, this may be a little too far out there, but in the U.S., April 22 is Earth Day. An Earth Day-themed party would surely be unique.
-- Contributed by: Lorie WitkopHey Tracy, I am Vicky and I am a pretty ordinary girl from Europe, Bulgaria. This year on 22 April I am turning 16 and all I wish is to have a great party. But you know what... I want it to be something different, something uncommon... but I have no ideas how to achieve this goal. Can you help me with some ideas? I would be really thankful if you do. Thank you in an advance With best wishes, Vicky (a girl who just wants to make this day a special one for herself and her friends) :):):)
-- Contributed by: VickyMariliz, when you say Sweet 15, do you mean that you're planning a Quinceañera? This site has several articles on this topic that may be helpful:
In regards to the Arabian Nights theme, the first thing that comes to mind is gauzy fabric. Draping it around the room will instantly set the atmosphere. You can use flying carpets, magic lamps, camels and palm trees as decorations (cardboard cut-outs or plastic replicas). Another idea is to create sitting areas of brightly-colored, beaded pillows.
If you'd like to incorporate larger set pieces in your decorations, prom decoration companies are a good source. You can purchase things like Arabian-style castle entrances or use the catalogs as inspiration for making your own from cardboard or plywood. Anderson's (www.andersonsprom.com) and Stumps (www.stumpsprom.com) are two popular companies.
-- Contributed by: Lorie WitkopHi I am planning a sweet 15 party, and the theme is arabian nights. What ideas do you suggest.
-- Contributed by: marilizThanks for the compliment, Tracy! One idea that comes to mind for a Leap Year birthday is to go all out with the fact that she's "turning 4" and make it a throw-back to childhood birthday parties. Play games like Pin the Tail on the Donkey and Candyland, ask the guests to dress up like they're 4 years old, and have lots of fun candy treats and toys around. Maybe you could also incorporate a scrapbooking activity if everyone could bring a few pictures of themselves at that age. Some teens are at the right age that they can look back on that time fondly and think it's fun to act like a kid again. However, how well this idea will go over depends greatly on your daughter's personality - only you can know whether she would be mortified or excited.

-- Contributed by: Lorie WitkopLove your ideas! But I have a dilemma, my daughter was born on Feb. 29th (leap year), this year she will be "16" & "4", have any ideas to celebrate this special day.
Thank You, Tracy

A Phantom of the Opera birthday sounds like an excellent idea. As far as decorations, I would start by trying to turn your home into an opera theater. You could have a ticket booth at the front door and drape long pieces of black and red fabric on the walls. Set up tons of chairs around the area of the party, which is great for the feel of the theater and to provide ample places to sit!
Another characteristic of an opera setting are the masks. Either hand some out to your guests or hang them on the walls. Dim lighting and/or candles will help to set the mood. And, don't forget the music! You can have the soundtrack from the opera playing in the background. Also encourage your guests to wear clothing from the time period too.
I hope this helps inspire some great ideas!
~~Have fun!

I am sorry this article disappointed you. To be honest, the Sweet 16 party has evolved greatly with the times. Current trends are to follow MTV's pattern of a large celebration almost to the same level as a wedding. This was not always how the sixteenth birthdays were celebrated.
The age of 16 became a common age to celebrate the emerging adult. As 16 is often the age of legal consent in many states, some families saw it as an opportunity to introduce their teenager to the adult world of dating and relationships. But, in reality, most of the true traditions surrounding teen birthdays stem from religious and cultural sources.
The bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs, as well as the Quinceanera and Catholic confirmations are good examples of cultural traditions surrounding the teen birthdays.
Your best bet is to start your own tradition or look to your family history for guidance. How did you grandmother celebrate her 16th birthday? Do you have ancestors from other cultures? Looking for traditions from your own backgrounds will be the most meaningful to you on a special day.
~~Good Luck!
