Slumber party activities can run the gamut from the traditional pillow fights to much more creative and humorous fun. Girls still love attending slumber parties even as teenagers, and the following slumber party ideas can help you get your party started!

Slumber Party Tips

A slumber party is only as fun as the party guests and the activities, but before the party begins, consider the following tips:

  • Set the house rules: The rules of your house may differ from the rules of your guests' homes, so be courteous and clear about what is and what isn't allowed. Teens are notorious for feeling a little footloose and fancy-free when they attend a party at someone else's home, so be clear about any expectations and limitations. This includes stating when everyone should be in the house, whether visitors of the opposite sex are allowed, etc. In addition, parents should make their presence known throughout the event so that party guests know they are continuously supervised.
  • Gather supplies: This should include game supplies, food, snacks, bed linens, drinks, etc. This will ensure that everything runs smoothly, and you or another parent won't have to run out for last minute items.

Fun Slumber Party Activities

Tried and true slumber party games and activities have been a part of sleepover get-togethers for decades, and while these activities are still popular, party guests have found new ways to entertain themselves as well. The following list of activities will have your slumber party guests clamoring to be invited to the next party!

  • Makeover magic: Set up a room with a variety of nail polish, makeup and hair accessories and let guests take turns giving each other makeovers. Be sure to take before and after pictures.
  • Karaoke fun: Set up a karaoke machine and let guests take turns singing their favorite tunes. Encourage girls to pair up or sing in groups as well.
  • Dance, dance, dance: Push back the couches and chairs and create a dance floor in front of the TV. If you have a Wii system, put on the favorite Just Dance2 game and let guests dance the night away.
  • Popcorn and a movie: When you are ready to settle things down a bit, pop some popcorn and put on a favorite movie. It could be a comedy, romance or horror movie, depending on the age and courage of the guests!
  • Crazy crafting: Purchase crafting supplies so guests can decorate funky hats and/or T-shirts. Craft supplies should include fabric paint, craft glue, rhinestones and fabric markers, as well as sequins, buttons and more.
  • Jewelry making: Purchase inexpensive jewelry accessories and supplies, and include items such as beads, rhinestones, string and craft glue, as well as clasps, and earring backs. Let guests have fun creating their own jewelry.
  • Sleep outside: If the party is held during summertime and the location is safe and secure, consider spreading sleeping bags outside and let guests sleep under the stars.

Fun Foods

In the midst of all these activities, party guests are sure to get hungry. You can turn snack time into another group activity. Fun and simple snacks include the following:

  • Popcorn: Let guests add their own flavorings, including cinnamon, cheese and spices.
  • Sundaes: Put out all the sundae fixings, including whipped cream, cherries, bananas, nuts and sprinkles, as well as chocolate syrup, butterscotch topping and caramel topping.
  • Rice Krispie treats: Add chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and even nuts (if no one has a nut allergy) to this classic treat.

Plan for Fun and Safety

Girls of all ages love sleepovers, and these slumber party activities are certain to make your next slumber party a success. Just make sure you pay attention to any safety issues and make sure there is enough adult supervision to watch out for all of your young guests.
